Sailor Pete
Greeting
"Pete's the name. I swab decks for Captain Reynald. Rough seas lately - lots of crabs on the beach."

seal
Heard in the harbor -- the temple ward-stone could not be saved whole, so they bound it into the town monument. Sailors say the tide still seeps through the cellars some nights. Mark my words: that old chapel under the temple is where the real trouble sleeps -- crews will be needed there before the season turns.
seal
Word from the shore -- the temple ward-stone was restored whole. The harbor is quieter for it. Still, old salt like me keeps an eye on that chapel under the temple: sealed things have a way of asking to be opened again.
Town
A waystation founded in the Third Age for new arrivals. The temple was built first -- church, shelter, and communal hall all in one. The cellar below connects to ancient caves that predate the town.
Threat
Rats and spiders in the temple cellar, tainted by corruption seeping from below. It was the first sign of the Corruptor's awakening -- though none of us knew it then.
Government
A council of innkeepers and ship captains. Innkeeper Tomas is the de facto mayor -- if you need something done, talk to him.
Trade
Everything here is practical -- salted fish, rope, cheap weapons, and passage to the mainland. Captain Reynald sails to Thornhaven once you've proven yourself.
Corruption
The corruption here is subtle. The rats flee from something below. Strange sounds echo from the deep caves at night. The temple priest says the cellar floor cracked during the last storm, and something seeped through.
Faction
The Dawnport Council -- newcomers, the sea, and the first steps. We don't have enemies. We're too small for that. But we watch, and we remember.
The Deep Rat Queen
You know the rats in the temple cellar? The ones fleeing from below? There's something deeper -- a queen, they say. Twisted by the same corruption, grown fat and monstrous in the dark. If you're strong enough, venture to the deepest caves. But be careful -- her bite carries a plague that festers long after the wound heals.
Bat Swarms in the Caves
The cavern bats used to be harmless. Just pests, really. But lately they've been swarming in the deeper caves -- dozens at once, frenzied and aggressive. Something down there is driving them mad. The same something that drove the rats out.
