Factions & Reputation
Aetheria has 10 factions vying for influence across the continent. Completing quests for a faction's aligned towns grants reputation, which unlocks NPC shop discounts and narrative rewards.

Gaining Reputation
- Quest completion — Each quest has a
faction_id and reputation_reward. Completing the quest grants reputation to the associated faction.
- Town alignment — Quests given in a town aligned with a faction will grant reputation to that faction. The
city_to_faction_id() helper maps NPC city to faction.
- Opposing factions — Gaining reputation with the Crown may reduce standing with the Syndicate (and vice versa). The Grove and Ashen Order share a similar opposition.
Shop Pricing Impact
NPC shop prices adjust based on your reputation with the faction aligned to that NPC's town:
- Friendly (100+): 5% discount on purchases
- Honored (500+): 10% discount on purchases
- Exalted (1000+): 15% discount on purchases
- Unfriendly (-100 to -499): 10% surcharge on purchases
- Hostile (-500 to -1000): 25% surcharge on purchases
Client UI
- Factions panel — Accessible via the "Factions" left tab in the game screen. Shows all 10 factions with reputation bars and tier color coding.
- Portal — The
/factions portal page shows faction cards with aligned towns, opposed factions, quest counts, and a reputation tier reference.
